Hi my name is Brad, and this is my story about my time at Kwila Rehab.
I came to Kwila Rehab in 2023 after being released from prison, where I’d been for five months. When I was released, I was given 100 hours of community service to complete, and I was told I could do this at Kwila Rehab.
When I first arrived, my initial feeling was that of comfort.
I was treated as an equal, and I found I had many things in common with the men and women who spent their time there. I've never been great with my hands, but that didn't stop the guys from giving me chances to get involved in the workshop.
Small jobs lead to big jobs, and I quickly learned there are always plenty of things to do at Kwila Rehab.
After I had completed my 100 hours of community service, I decided to stay on, and I was given the opportunity to become a Peer Support Volunteer. It’s so good to be able to help other people through their own recovery journey.
I've been attending Kwila Rehab for seven months now, and I recently celebrated one year of sobriety. My life has never been better. I recently enrolled to study counselling, and towards the end of last year, I got married!
My heart is so thankful for the wonderful team at Kwila Rehab. From the recovery support groups with Greg, to the spiritual talks with Daran, to the patience from Mark, who is always happy to explain the intricacies of woodworking to a clueless novice like me! And, of course, the warmth and care from Loraine and David Outridge, the people who make it all possible!
I have one message for Kwila Rehab: Thank You.
